Shame (Not the Evelyn Champagne King Version)

While cruising MusicSpace.com for iTune download ideas, I ran across a collection called Monster Booty Platinum: BADONKADONK EDITION.

And I laughed at it until I realized I already owned 95% of the playlist.

Humpty Dance?

Wiggle It?

Rump Shaker?

SHAMEFUL.

Share your own iTunes shame in the comments section.  I'll even start you off with some of last night's (sober) purchases:  Twisted Sister - We're Not Gonna Take It, Nancy Sinatra - These Boots Were Made for Walking, Ratt - Round and Round, John Parr - St. Elmo's Fire, and Starland Vocal Band - Afternoon Delight

Frankly, I'm embarrassed I even know me right now.

Comments

I'm too Sexy - Right Said Fred
Hey Hey we're the Monkees - The Monkees

ok so i'll throw out there 3 ipod from hell must haves:
Seasons in the Sun (the original by Terry Jacks),
The Night Chicago Died-Paper Lace
and the ever classic Brandy-Looking Glass.
Throw in a mix with Brass Monkey- The Beastie Boys,
Round the Way Girl-LL Cool J,
Runaway-Bon Jovi and
I Got Friends in Low Places-Garth Brooks (which is NOT available on itunes) and you have a collection!

I have all the songs Jen listed, including:

Barry Manilow (all of them)
Donny and Marie
The Osmonds
Britney Spears
Backstreet Boys

I think I just won.

I am so tickled with how many people have Hanson songs or albums. Ha! (That is the laugh of, "I have an embarrassing collection of Hanson stuff somewhere at my mom's house.")

Then there's "My Sharona," "White Wedding," albums I own by Lifehouse, Hoobastank and Puddle of Mudd...

Ack. I can't even go on, I'm beginning to traumatize myself. Well, except for
My Sharona and White Wedding. I refuse to admit they are anything but awesome.

Too Much Booty In the Pants gets me through approximately four minutes of my commute daily...

Growing up, my exposure to music was through my older parents & my stuck-in-the-70's brothers. Hence:
Simon & Garfunkel, Peter, Paul & Mary, Gordon Lightfoot, Frank Sinatra
Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash (before he was "in" again), The Doobie Brothers, The Allman Brothers, The Band, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Righteous Brothers, Queen, Journey...
But I think the worst I have is Bryan Adams! Gah!

I can admit here that I have lots of ELO, Hall and Oates and, yes, Afternoon Delight, on my iPod. It is always 1978 in my ears.

Shameful though it may be, in college, my roommates and I were obsessed with Shannen Doherty's song in the Lifetime movie "Friends 'Til the End."

At the time it was only available straight from the movie via Napster, so you can even hear the psycho girl in the background sobbing away. Classic!

Wow...yes, please keep the comments - I need to cross check the songs listed here with what I have on my 'pod (which is actually a Creative Zen Vision:M - but obviously easier to call it an iPod...). I too have the entire ABBA catalog on my player, in addition to a few Bonnie Tyler, the Xanadu soundtrack, various alternative/grunge/modern/disco/pop/power ballads/classic rock/country/classical...I've got Beastie Boys and I've got Willie Nelson. Bananarama and Dan Fogelberg. I've got Nik Kershaw and I've got the Who. Beatles and Tori Amos. EBN-OZN anyone? I'm really really glad to see that there are a lot of peeps out there with broad music tastes. It very well could be a unique thing for our generation since we were surrounded by so many choices. Choice (even those songs or groups we're embarrassed about) is AWESOME- I'm proud of my 'pod shames/guilty pleasures (even if husband doesn't like all of them)! =) All the songs listed here bring back memories - good and bad - but it's great! Gotta make my download list...

ps, i just remembered.
i have the FIRST monster booty!

no shame there, i <3 it.

and my roommate also got me Latin Booty...which is special.

is it wrong that i feel no shame for a lot of these?

however, my personal shame:
anything avril lavigne (i know! now i shudder!)
crazytown - butterfly (ugh)
u make me sick - pink (she does, she really does)
the soundtrack to "roswell"

...sigh..

i'm sure there's more...

Queen Jen: PLEASE DON"T DELETE THIS COMMENT LIST!! I am still cross checking my iTunes to make sure I have them all. I smile my rear off at the gym now when I am sweatin' to these tunes.

To all my fellow LoverBoy Compandres: We're the Lucky Ones!!

Chicken: I feel your pain girl. Unemployed and wanting to download them all. What's a girl to do

KM has a point. It is so, so much worse to soberly seek out and pay for these songs rather than to have owned them 17 years ago when they were supah cool. Touche.

However, they were supah supah cool at one point. Tell me why I need to sync both the 1998-1999 AND the 1999-2000 versions of the Ole Miss Rebel Band's halftime shows to my iPod? What is this compulsion? I am terrified of what will happen when I finally do start buying stuff off iTunes.

Not only am I not ashamed to admit that I own the original version of this CD, but I am also over the moon about the updated edition! The Original Monster Booty perfect to listen to while working out. It has a great tempo PLUS the added motivation of the subject matter!

Can anyone tell me why the people with references to Saved by the Bell music don't have emails so I can contact them and offer to trade? Like, I'll give you lots of money you'll give me the ultimate in music?

OK - every last one of Mandy Moore's albums, including the remix album for "I Wanna Be With You" and the Center Stage soundtrack. Plus, several Britney Spears albums (I waited until 12:01 a.m. - continually reloading iTunes - until 'Blackout' came out. I can't help it - she's a hot mess) I also have several songs from a girl group called Innosense (yes, that's how it's spelled), and TONS of Backstreet Boys songs -- sadly, with them, my best friend and I saw them 3 times in high school.

OMG! I want us all to be best friends!! This is awesome! Nothing like giving a girl out on short term disability with nary a paycheck in sight, something to BUY!
I have a friend at work that I play "beat this video" with...we take turns finding the most obscure/old/hair band/whatever the theme of the day is youtube videos. I LOVE KISS. I found Ace Frehley, Back in the New York Groove...God I LOVE THAT SONG! I saw Poison last summer. Journey was my second concert-with Glass Tiger, thank you very much. My first was Lionel Richie-with Tina Turner. Natch.
This is awesome...
I have both Manfred man AND Bruce Springsteen's "blinded by the light" (did you know there were 2 versions?) Right along side George Michael and "I want your sex."

so I totally have about 95% of the playlist and not at all afraid to admit it. I even have a playlist on my I-pod specifically called old school and you'd better bet those songs are on it along with the pop classics of Hansen, NSYNC, every Backstreet Boys CD ever made, and Brittney Spears. I just have to remember to hold back the urge to sing along at the gym!

Proud to be an 80's girl! Add Winger "She's Only Seventeen" to the list.

Afternoon Delight is one of my all time favorite songs! I have John Denver's Greatest Hits on my ipod. He sooths me.

On any given Friday night at my house we have an 80's hour, 90's hour, then follow it up with a Southern Rock hour. Each week more and more people show up. Some songs that have been overlooked:

Baby's Got Her Blue Jeans On-Mel McDaniel
Baby Love-Mother's Finest
Sister Christian-Night Ranger
Making Love Out of Nothing at All-Air Supply
Open Arms-Journey
Anything David Allen Coe..(well not ANYthing)
Lynyrd Skynyrd
If You Wanna Get to Heaven-Ozark Mountain Daredevils

I LOVE me some Golddigger...

I have "Shame" on my iPod, because that song is just fabulous (and "St. Elmo's Fire", and "Afternoon Delight")! However, most people would cringe at the following:

RICK ASTLEY!!! (And I am NOT ashamed to admit I love him! "Never Gonna Give You Up" and "Together Forever" are fantastic songs and he was SO under-appreciated in his time.)
Barry Manilow - "Could It Be Magic," "It's a Miracle," "I Write the Songs," and my personal favorite, "Weekend in New England"
Winger- "Seventeen"
Poison - "Unskinny Bop"
Roxette - "She's Got the Look" and "Listen to Your Heart"
COLOR ME BADD - their entire self-titled debut album
DRS - "Gangsta Lean" (does anyone remember that song?!)
95% of the Badonkadonk edition of Monster Booty Platinum
Dan Fogelberg - His entire greatest hits album
Irene Cara - "Fame"
*gulp* Fergie - "Fergalicious"
Bonnie Tyler - "Total Eclipse of the Heart", the FULL version!
Richard Marx - "Hold on to the Nights"
Sheena Easton- "Sugar Walls" and "Morning Train (9-5)"
and (drumroll, please)...
WHAM! - Make It Big, the entire album

and many more that shall remain nameless (and encompasses many of the selections above!). However, I still hold my head up high and say I'm proud to rock out to NKOTB on the bus if it's randomly selected and not quickly change the song, believing that other people on the bus will hear the familiar strains of "Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh" and laugh at me.

I won't go into complete detail, but I have the Paris Hilton song I think it is called "stars are blind". The ultimate embarrasment is that last Christmas I brought the New Kids on the Block Christmas CD off of ebay. Shame shame shame...

Anybody Goin Back to Cali? And his slow jam I Need Love. LL Rocks!!

So who doesn't have any of those!
My playlist includes:
Brittney spears (PRE KFED AND Pre Bad Mom)
John Mayer
Ace of Base
Rick Springfield
Pat Benetar
Sarah Barielles
hanson
Backstreet Boys
N*Sync
So I guess I am guility too!

I knew we had a problem when the DJ refused to play "Magic Stick" at my sister's wedding for moral concerns. Apparently our taste is more depraved than I once thought.

To Amy W, you're not the only one with the "Footloose" soundtrack. How about Kenny Loggins theme song from "Caddyshack"? I think if that damned gopher every time I hear it.

Remember Abba? I bought every song and play them loudly through the computer, much to the dismay of my children! :) I have each song from their greatest hits, including the Mammia Mia soundtrack. As a throwback to my favorite 80's music how about Billy Idol's "White Wedding"?

Last week I saw a brother and sister sing "I am your angel" on American Idol....it got me a little choked up so I downloaded it. And yes it's by Celine Dion and R Kelly. I have yet to mention this to my husband.

Okay, I'm so glad someone finally mentioned the Beastie Boys!! Fight for Your Right to Party and Brass Monkey- so not ashamed!! Also not ashamed, but slightly embarrassing when it plays on my pc at work:
The Cheerleader Song- Deidre Flint ( HILARIOUS)
That's What I like about the North- Lynn Marie (accordian music and funny!)
The Channakuh Song-Adam Sandler
and the most strange- 99 Budweiser Men of Real Genius commercials thanks to a co-worker who "updated" my iPod! Seriously- there are 99 of them
"keep your hands off my drummies..."

Mixed in with the Indie, Rock, Pop, Rap and Disco smorgasbord that is my Ipod is the following-
Copacabana
Cradle of Love, Billy Idol
Arthur's Theme, Yup. The Dudley Moore movie theme song...
Slow Ride, Foghat
Nuttin' But Love, Heavy D
and some scary stuff by the Muppets and Kermit the Frog.

Nsync-girlfriend
britney spears-baby one more time
lindsey lohan-rumors
christina augilera-what a girl wants

Most ashamed of? Britney Spears! But the girl can dance, what do you do?

Ahem.
Lil' Mama- Lipgloss
Avril Lavigne- Girlfriend
Akon- Smack That
Sir Mix-A-Lot- Baby Got Back
Devo- Whip It
Ashlee Simpson- Autobiography
Bow Wow Wow- I Want Candy
Bubba Sparxxx- Ms. New Booty
Hurricane Chris- Ay Bay Bay

It's amazing to me that I actually own these songs, let alone have them on my iPod

seals and crofts greatest hits.

Eazy-E: College girls are easy.

It was my friends theme song in college...shameful I know. There are others but I don't think it can get any worse.

poison - talk dirty to me

paris hilton (shame of shame) - stars are blind

michael damien - rock on

avril lavigne's first album

Poison and Do Me! by Bel Biv Devoe

Come baby come by K7

And there may or may not be some Heavy D on there as well.

I....*gulp*.....have all the Milli Vanilli songs on my Ipod.

Yello--everything (Remember Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Secret of My Success?)
Mandy Moore--I Wanna Be With You
The Ally McBeal soundtrack
Train--Drop of Jupiter (I know you can hear it on contemporary radio stations, but I'm still slightly embarrassed.)

I sadly seem to be stuck in a bad General Hospital episode from 1984, since I purposefully just bought a CD containing both Rick Springfield and Jack Wagner. I still wish I was Jessie's Girl. And despite being a blond-streaked, business suit-wearing professional, I own A LOT of Beastie Boys. And, wait for it, I still have the We're Not Going to Take it sheet music for piano (which I can't play).

Double Dutch Bus.

So not ashamed, though.

The entire "Disco Tunes" collection - which, I'm embarassed to say, my aging girl-posse and I still get drunk and sing to. God help the nursing home that gets us.

I can honestly say that I have almost everything listed... also:
"Grease", "Chicago", & "Dirty Dancing" soundtracks
"Beep Beep" by the Playmates
"Wild Thing" by Tone Loc
"Wild Wild West" by The Escape Club - (CLASSIC 80's song!)
"Freeze Frame" by J. Geils Band,
"Ice Cream Man" by Van Halen
"The Best of George Michael" 2-CD set
"Darling Nicki" besides the Prince version, I also have the cover by the Foo Fighters

I have to suggest checking out these bands just for fun: Me First & the Gimme Gimmes (www.gimmegimmes.com) - and Richard Cheese (www.richardcheese.com) They are both cover bands that do punk and lounge versions (respectively) of various songs. You can listen to the Me First & the Gimme Gimmes versions of "Delta Dawn", "Seasons in the Sun", "Come Sail Away", etc. and STILL be cool!

I'm not embarassed till I'm having a house party and Bibbity Boppity Boo from Cinderella starts playing on my iPod.

The horror. No I don't have children and yes I am older than 8.

Um, I have EVERY Britney song ever published and also the Greatest Hits of both New Kids on the Block and Debbie Gibson. Sometimes, when we're bored, we break out the NKOTB here at work. It helps us market things better.

Ok, people. There is no shame in 80's New Wave music. Or 90's Hip-Hop.

Frankly, I'm now feeling much less old and out-of-it realizing there are so many others who share my antique tastes! Hooray - 40 IS the new 20! I'm hip!

But am I the only one who (delectably, shamefully) loves Air Supply?

Or the "Footloose" Soundtrack?

"Runaround Sue" by Dion.

Ohhhhh, this is painful, but I hope to find peace with myself after I purge the fact that I own not one but three Michael Bolton Cds. Yes, I feel better.

On this very same note....is anyone else aware that the boys of NKOTB are staging a comeback tour? Yes, friends, it's true...

I just have to say, the entire Xanadu soundtrack is AWESOME! I am a huge Olivia Newton-John fan, and I used to be ashamed of it, but now I stand proud!

Also, I must share that "Afternoon Delight" was my favorite song when I was much too young to know what it meant. Filthy filthy song! "Rubbing sticks and stones together making sparks ignite..."
