While cruising MusicSpace.com for iTune download ideas, I ran across a collection called Monster Booty Platinum: BADONKADONK EDITION.
And I laughed at it until I realized I already owned 95% of the playlist.
Humpty Dance?
Wiggle It?
Rump Shaker?
SHAMEFUL.
Share your own iTunes shame in the comments section. I'll even start you off with some of last night's (sober) purchases: Twisted Sister - We're Not Gonna Take It, Nancy Sinatra - These Boots Were Made for Walking, Ratt - Round and Round, John Parr - St. Elmo's Fire, and Starland Vocal Band - Afternoon Delight
Frankly, I'm embarrassed I even know me right now.

The Superchicken Theme Song from Animaniacs (courtesy of my brother):
When you find yourself in danger
When you're threatened by a stranger
When it looks like you will take a lickin'
(bawk, bawk, bawk, bawk)
There is someone waiting who will
Hurry up and rescue you
Just ca-a-all for Superchicken
(bawk-aaaawwk)
Oh yeah. Now THAT's embarrassing.

Oh, it's a sad day when I am compelled to admit some of my i-tunes' purchases. I would be less embarrassed if, in fact, these songs were a part of my archaic and dwindling CD collection and I decided to just rip them to my i-tunes.
No, my friends, that is not the case.
I actually made a conscious, and un-inebbriated effort, to "power search" AND PAY FOR the following hits from my high school days:
"It Takes Two (to make a thing go right" - aw yes, the vocal and musical stylings of Rob Bass
"I Won't Forget You" by Poison (my love for Poison was revived thanks to Rock of Love)
"Let's Talk About Sex" by Salt and Pepa
and...everyone's favorite:
"Hangin' Tough" by NKOTB
That reminds me...I wonder if they have Color Me Badd - "I Wanna Sex You Up"

one word: WHAM!
Posted by: jamie | January 28, 2008 at 11:28 AM
I just blogged about this...I made an alphabetical list of my most embarrassing iTunes hits...
A. Annaleigh Ashford, "ohmygod, you guys" from the Broadwat production of Legally Blonde...don't even give me shit, bc it was a free download of the week...
B. Bob Seger, "Night Moves"....on my top 10 list of favorite songs. Ever.
C. Christopher Cross, "Sailing"....I don't care what anyone says, that, my friends, is a classic...
D. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, "Summertime"...enough said.
E. The only E artist I have is Eels, and I'm certainly not embarrassed of them...so I'll skip right to...
F. Fergie, "Fergalicious"....it's almost sinful how much I actually like that song...
G. George Strait, "How 'bout them cowgirls"...I like to pretend I'm one sometimes...a cowgirl, that is....
H. Hanson, "Penny & Me"...ouch....
I. Believe it or not, the only I artist I have is Ice-T, "I'm your pusher"...thanks Casey, for downloading Hip Hop Gold into my iTunes...
J. Jefferson Airplane..."We Built this City"...I? LOVE this song.
K. Kelis, "Bossy"...ask Trey why I have this song on my computer. ;)
L. LFO, "Summer Girls"...I like girls that wear Abercrombie and Fitch....
M. ummmm.....Marie Osmond, "Meet me in Montana"....thank you Carrie...could also make a debut on my top ten list...
N. Nickelback, "Rockstar"....I just feel soooo....mainstream for my unabashed love for this edgy tune...
O. I like all my O songs...we'll go with the oldest....Oasis, "Wonderwall"
P. Plain White T's, "Hey There Delilah"...it was cute the first five hundred times it was played on the radio...
Q. haha...the only Q I have is Queen Latifah, "U.N.I.T.Y.", also from Casey's Hip Hop Gold CD...
R. Rascal Flatts, "Fast Cars and Freedom", my friend Timmy sings this at karaoke (Yes, Carrie...THAT karaoke bar...) and it makes me smile....
S. S Club 7...."Never had a dream come true"...I'm actually not even sure how this GOT on my computer...
T. Taylor Hicks, "Georgia on my mind"...yeah....the "Soul Patrol" kind of ended up being a dud...
U. Uncle Kraker, "Follow me"...catchy, if shallow, little diddy...
V. Vanilla Ice, "Ice, Ice, Baby"...There is no need to defend this cultural icon of a song...
W. Warren G, "Regulators"...also on the top ten list...
X. Yeah....no X's?
Y. No Y's
Z. The only Z's I have are ZZ Top...and in NO way am I embarrassed of that!
Posted by: Katy | January 28, 2008 at 10:49 AM
Sadly, I don't think it's shameful to have a lot of the music above. Dexy's Midnight Runners? The whole album that "Come On Eileen" is on is great!
Although I'm not a fan of "soft" or "lite" rock, I'm a sucker for Toto's "Africa" and "Rosanna." I also need to see if there's some Stephen Bishop on iTunes. I love "It Might Be You" from the movie "Tootsie."
Posted by: Jill | January 28, 2008 at 10:38 AM
Um let's see,
Eric Carmen- Turn the Radio Up AND Hungry Eyes. (Does anyone even remember him?)
Bonnie Tyler- Total Eclipse of the Heart
Anything Spice Girls and Britney Spears.
Oh, NSYNC and the Backstreet Boys.
That is shameful.
Posted by: katie | January 28, 2008 at 10:25 AM
Although reading this list I am shamed to admit I share a great many of these cringe worthy songs- my favorite?
Shakin' you down- Gregory Abbott.

Shamefully I had to get out a tablet and start jotting things down I have overlooked!!
There are some great artists that haven’t gotten any mention…Rod Stewart and his Great American Songbook collection(bought for my gram and ended up lovin it!)
How about Michael Jackson people??? From ABC to Thriller!! I CANNOT believe no one brought up Sinead O’Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U and Christopher Cross - Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)!! OR the Bossom Buddies theme!
Just recently I remembered a song I hadn’t heard in a coon’s age while describing my 8 track jukebox to my boys! J. Geils Band NO Anchovies Please to be promptly followed by Love Stinks. My 16 year old told me I was weird after I MADE him listen to them!!! And as far as Doris Day…Please, Please Don’t eat the Daisies!

A Very Rosie Christmas....as in Rosie O'Donnell...
Posted by: Ginger | January 28, 2008 at 10:02 AM
These are awesome - I've already pulled out the sheet of paper where I write down songs I want to download and copied quite a few down.
I'll only mention one that I haven't seen named specifically yet. And to be quite honest, I was listening to this song literally about 10 minutes ago:
Last Christmas by Wham! (That song is great any time of year)

You can copy records and cassettes to your itunes library. Just go to Best Buy and back in the computer games area ask someone to find you a program that converts records to your computer. I can't remember what mine is called but I use it alot. And doesn't anyone else have any Doris Day?? Que Sera Sera...

It's an "All-Skate" for:
Billy Squire
ELO
The entire Xanadu soundtrack
Recent downloads include:
Miley Cyrus' duet with her Dad
Hanson - Where's the Love
NKOTB
My favorite is when my husband yells from the office upstairs..."Who is downloading New Kids on the Block" um..duh...there's only two of us that live there....

Paper Lace - The Night Chicago Died
Barry Manilow - Copacabana
Bay City Rollers - Saturday Night
David Cassidy - I Think I Love You
Biz Markie - You Got What I Need
Run DMC - You Be Illin'
Smokie - Who The Fuck Is Alice?
Hot Chocolate - You Sexy Thing
Oh and the list does indeed go on for miles...

I actually have two versions of "Billy, Don't Be a Hero" on my iPod. Yes, there were two actual hit versions! Most folks only know the Bo Donaldson one, but Paper Lace (of "The Night Chicago Died" fame, and yes, I have that one as well) hit the top five in the UK at the same time it was on the US charts.
My dance playlist includes Sir MixALot, Prince, George Michael, Garth Brooks, Adam Ant, KC and the Sunshine Band, ABBA and Wall of Voodoo.
Posted by: Dana Whitaker | January 28, 2008 at 08:51 AM
Brittany Spears - Greatest Hits!! And I have a whole 80's pop collection... very sad!
I love it when I have my iPod on shuffle and a random song comes on that I've completely forgotten about, and would probably never admit that I have. It makes me happy.

No way......I still think I am going to marry K.C.....(although I am married with children)???? He is not of the heterosexual type????? Are you sure? Are you really really sure? Ok....I have to go google K.C now...I'll be putting on my boogie shoes to do this.....

Soooo relieved to see the vast musical tastes - I'm not alone. In fact I have now added several of your songs to my "to download" list. Karen Mc I have East Bound Down on my "to download" list - no lie, along with "Let Your Love Flow" by the Bellamy Bros. One would think I'm a child of the 70's but no - graduated high school and college in the 80's which is also why George Michael is on my "to download" list as well. I have got to replace my Freedom 90 cassette right? Also, my iTunes addiction has be downloading theme playlists. I'm a tennis fan so when the US Open was on this summer I downloaded 6, count them 6, New York songs. Three of which were different versions of New York, New York. Is there a 12 step program for iTunes addiction? If so I'll see you all there!

Sober and proud...Night Ranger's greatest hits!
Posted by: Jamie | January 28, 2008 at 08:17 AM
- The latest Britney Spears album. (And you know what? I **LOVE** it!)
- The last Nick Lachey single.
- Justin Timberlake
Ok, I'm drawing a blank. But this is a fabulous extensive listing of guilty pleasures. I am so hitting iTunes tonight and pulling this back up :-)
Posted by: LJ | January 28, 2008 at 08:09 AM
Considering that I listen to mostly industrial/darkwave/goth, I have some truly cringe-inducing tracks on my iTunes.
Most notably:
Two Avril Lavigne albums
Several Britney tracks (the DJ Uppi remix of "Do Something"? EPIC.)
Nearly the entire Eminem and Snoop Dogg repertoire
Beyonce's "Ring the Alarm"
BEP's "My Humps" and "Don't Phunk with my Heart"
Snow's "Informer"
I refuse to "admit" to the majority of my 80slicious collection, because I don't consider most of it too shameful. Seriously, "Land Down Under"? Sure, I'll take a Vegemite sandwich!
Posted by: Tracie | January 28, 2008 at 08:01 AM
Sugar Walls by Sheena Easton. Wow it feels so good to come clean! Maybe we should start a support group?
Posted by: Melissa | January 28, 2008 at 05:59 AM
Oh and I forgot to say Kenny Rogers - The Gambler .....
Posted by: Elizabeth Jamieson | January 28, 2008 at 12:45 AM
Um I am embarrassed to say I have the Jessica Simpson version of "Boots" - the shame the shame the shame ...... also all Spice Girls .... I am nearly 40 ...... I scare myself

Diana:
you show up to Jen in Seattle, I'll bring you a copy. Nobody else should pay $40+ for that.
Posted by: Jessica | January 28, 2008 at 12:25 AM
KC and the Sunshine Band. I so grew up believing I was going to marry KC. Too bad he hits for the other team. Thanks for the eighties memories. Take 5 was hot.
Posted by: Amanda | January 27, 2008 at 11:38 PM
Thanks to the delete key I'm not ashamed of any music in my iTunes collection. I keep my library fairly up-to-date. Now my vinyl collection is a different story...my most shameful five:
Culture Club
Kajagoogoo
Haircut 100
Wham!
and last but not any better - Billy Squire
Posted by: Nanz | January 27, 2008 at 11:07 PM
Texie and Kitkat.....I feel as if I've found some missing pieces of myself reading your posts...
Posted by: Jenna | January 27, 2008 at 10:24 PM
Jessica:
"A German import version of the 'Last Unicorn' soundtrack by America"
Can we be best friends? Please?
Posted by: Diana | January 27, 2008 at 09:39 PM
You think those are bad? I mean, really?
Observe:
Anita Ward - Ring My Bell
Bel Biv Devoe - Poison
The Carpenters - We've Only Just Begun
Deee-Lite - Groove Is In the Heart
Erasure - A Little Respect
Fergie - Glamorous
Etc., etc., ad nauseum.
I'd like to point out not only the schizophrenic nature of my taste in music, but also the fact that I've listed them in alphabetical order (and that I could continue to the end of the alphabet with my questionable choice of songs).
Posted by: Diana | January 27, 2008 at 09:35 PM
I need to add April Wine "Just Between You And Me". I know - I'm going to sit in the corner now.
Posted by: Jessica | January 27, 2008 at 09:15 PM
All excellent choices ladies. When I first got my ipod I purchased
Cum on Feel the Noize (Quiet Riot)
Wild Wild Life (T heads)
Give Me Tonight (Shannon)
Jungle Love (Steve Miller)
and let's not forget Aldo Nova or Night Ranger...
Think about it....many songs referenced here today we hear on the radio... why?
b/c the 80's had the best music and even
kids today listen to these songs.
Our generation literally rocks!
Posted by: CC | January 27, 2008 at 09:11 PM
what people...no Elvis? You gotta love ya some Viva Las Vegas...and not to mention the wide assortment of Christmas selections!!
Posted by: trish | January 27, 2008 at 08:30 PM
No Electric Light Orchestra?! I require a daily dose of "Sweet Talkin' Woman."
Posted by: Susie Sunshine | January 27, 2008 at 08:28 PM
Oh Ginny, my soulmate. Just last night I downloaded Saigon Kick because Dee Snider on House of Hair (yes I listen to the whole two hours) played Trixter and when I searched iTunes for "Give It To Me Good", I was reminded of Saigon Kick.
And Jen, because of some commercial I saw last night, I also had to download Rock Me Gently because despite my fifteen plus Time Life CDs of the 70's hits somehow that one wasn't on any of them. But I already had Afternoon Delight covered! "...skyrockets in flight..."
Posted by: Lea in SC | January 27, 2008 at 08:22 PM
OK -- this post is becoming expensive! After reading Jen's original post and all the comments, I have now purchased "We're Not Gonna Take It" (I saw a "Behind the Music" on Twisted Sister a couple of days ago and thought about buying this song then but resisted, but -- DAMN! -- having this song come up twice in less than week must be a sign that I need to have it!!). Have also just bought "Should I Stay or Should I Go" and "Rainbow Connection" (although I went for the Kenny Loggins rather than the Kermit the Frog version ...). Buying songs by Twisted Sister, The Clash, and Kenny Loggins all in one fell swoop. Eek! If that doesn't plumb the depths of my musical psyche, what does??
MUST - STOP - READING! TOO MUCH GREAT MUSIC MENTIONED HERE!!!!!!!!
Posted by: Ginny | January 27, 2008 at 08:19 PM
Jen, I agree w/ you, this isn't so much shameful to me, as it is a really good list of shit I need to download. I own prob about 85% of the above, but yay! Old skool music, just what I've been looking for.
I'm not embarrassed whatsoever of my library, which includes Britney, Grease 2 (yes! seriously--and I know every word), Hansen, Will Smith, and that Gwyneth Paltrow/ Huey Lewis duet...however...
High School Musical 2. I'm 30 years old. God help me.

Hey! I saw Loverboy in CONCERT! The Hooters opened up for them.
Posted by: TheBabblingHousewife | January 27, 2008 at 08:03 PM
I can't believe no one mentioned Bonnie Tyler!
I'm a Fanilow, too!
On my player, those songs join All American Rejects (Dirty Little Secret), a couple of Pussycat Doll songs, Pretenders Brass in Pocket...some Ricky Martin, Duran Duran, ABBA, Rob Thomas...and Love is on the Way by Saigon Kick
Posted by: TheBabblingHousewife | January 27, 2008 at 07:59 PM
Barry Manilow - It's A Miracle (oh, the shame!!)
The Weather Girls - It's Raining Men (But you gotta admit, that's a great song!)
Edison Lighthouse - Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes (my VERY FIRST favorite song, circa 1970!!!)
Ashlee Simpson - L.O.V.E.
Michael Buble' - Everything
Will Smith - Gettin' Jiggy Wit It
Joey Scarbury - Theme from "Greatest American Hero"
Hall & Oats - You Make My Dreams Come True
Also much Britney, Back Street Boys and -- yes -- songs from Disney animated films ...
.. and to illustrate the depths of my musical schizophrenia, here are a few other choice selections off my playlists:
The Specials - Nite Klub
Coldplay - Clocks
Earth, Wind & Fire - Fantasy
Gomez - See the World
Jimmy Buffett - Grapefruit-Juicy Fruit
Kristen Chenoweth - Popular (from Wicked ... Best.Musical.EVER!!!)
Rooney - When Did Your Heart Go Missing?
Cat Stevens - Wild World
Danny Hutton Hitters - Wouldn't It Be Good
Fatboy Slim - The Rockafeller Skank
Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride
Eclectic? Schizophrenic?? Whatever!!! I love it all!!
Posted by: Ginny | January 27, 2008 at 07:39 PM
Shadow Dancing by Andy Gibb- so hot!
Posted by: Jennifer | January 27, 2008 at 07:35 PM
Hot Child in the City? Cold As Ice? And what about Flashlight! Get your groove ON, people!
Posted by: pennyhoney | January 27, 2008 at 07:34 PM
Being that I was born in 1975 my musical collection has some issues. I have multiple songs from Frank and Dean (if you have to ask..), some Johnny Cash. Split into another realm by adding some ABBA, Muppets (Rainbow Connection) Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers (American Girl), moving right into the 80s with Sophie B Hawkins, Paul Simon, UB40, add some 90s with Concrete Blonde (Joey), PM Dawn, Pearl Jam, Counting Crows, Crash Test Dummies (MMM MMM MMM Mmm), Violent Femmes, Adam Sandler (POS car), BNL, Limp Bizkit, stir in the newer stuff like the ENTIRE collection of Blink 182, some Shakira, Outkast, Macy Gray, Fergie... and to top it all off.. I'll Be YOUR candle on the Water (pete's dragon)! sadly..I wish that was the only Disney music, but you know it is not alone
Posted by: Kitkat | January 27, 2008 at 07:11 PM
Vanilla Ice - Ice Ice Baby
Word to your mutha

Nothing, NOTHING, compares to the following two words:
Hannah.
Montana.
Oh, yes. I am almost 26, and I paid, PAID! For some Hannah/Miley. Multiple tracks.
Mmmmm, that's good shame.

My HUSBAND still has Rob Base and DJ E-Z Rock, It Takes Two....on TAPE.
Posted by: Heather | January 27, 2008 at 06:00 PM
I'm not really embarrassed by any of my music collection, but i will say that i have A LOT of things previously mentioned, including all of the new kids on the block cds (i also have cassettes, vhs tapes, sheets, and comforters...) and the saved by the bell soundtrack, which has the zack attack song, but also a lot of other classics. i have like 70 gb of music, so i figured the amount of socially acceptable music outweighs the rest, haha.
Posted by: Jen | January 27, 2008 at 04:54 PM
Why, please tell, did someone have to mention the Numa Numa song? I thought I had blocked memories, or at least blacked out during them, of my freshmen year of college and all the kids jumping up and down. Now the nightmare will begin again when I am subconsciously forced to request this song at a campus bar. Thanks for salting my game.
And 2gether? Nice.
Posted by: Samantha | January 27, 2008 at 04:53 PM
Jen, admitting to those songs is like saying, "I work too hard," when and interviewer asks you what your worst qualities are. Please. I recently got the newest, most cutting edge ipod available, the ipod Touch, and have been proceeding to load it up with my craptacular CD collection.
Apparently I haven't bought any new CDs since about the year 2000; even ones I thought were pretty hip (Linkin Park) dated to then. I have quite a grunge collection from the college years, and while some of them are classics (Nirvana-Nevermind), some are not (Temple of the Dog). I recently got down to the really old ones, including my first couple of CDs: Beaches and the one that made we want to get a CD player: Milli Vanilli. Then there are the Mexican Mariachi classics and (opera star) Kiri Te Kanawa sings Christmas classics like "The Virgin Washes the Swaddling."
I have not one, but two CDs by Ziggy Marley, son of Bob, the soundtrack to Beetlejuice, and, frankly, I'm disappointed there is no way for me to transfer my vinyl singles of Corey Hart's I Wear My Sunglasses at Night and the Ghostbusters theme into MP3 format. I paid good money for that Club Nouveau cassette tape just twenty years ago and now I have to pay for it again? Okay, well, I ordered it with She's So Unusual (Cyndi Lauper), Sports (Huey Lewis and the News), and 8 others from Columbia House for just 99 cents plus shipping and handling and the soul of my firstborn, but still.
I only have 5GB out of 16 left on my ipod (Benazir) and I'm still not done with the CDs. I should be forced to do community service for cruelty to electronic devices. Get me some Fitty and Rihanna, stat!
(They're in, right?)

I'm so glad someone else is going to "Miami" with Will Smith and me ;-)
PS: I was at a diner on Friday night and the 5-year-old girl in the booth next to us was busting-a-way-too-sexy-move and singing ALL the words to "Funky Town" -- WTF?!
