Busy writing day today, but quickly I wanted to share a list of things I am digging.
First, Paul W. in Australia created this cover for men who want to read my book on the bus without underpants. (Without the underpants on the cover, I mean. Not personally sans pants.)
(click to embiggen)
Seriously, is this not THE AWESOME?
* * *
I am currently also digging:
Jess Riley's Driving Sideways. I read it last fall in order to give a cover quote, but I'm re-reading it now and still can't get over how good it is.
* * *
And speaking of sparkly sandals, these jelly shoes (I know!) have captured my heart.
(They're way more shiny in real life.)
* * *
I'm always excited when a grocery store-type brand comes out with something salon-quality.
My current manicure (in Orange You Cute?) went on more smoothly and has outlasted anything I've used previously by Essie and OPI.
* * *
Sloane Crosley, author of I Was Told There'd Be Cake.
Yes, I've already explained how much I liked her book. But I didn't know how charming she was until I watched her listen politely when my husband trapped her for twenty minutes, sharing his suspicions of a pending zombie war. The best part? When he asked if she were a member of the NRA, she sweetly replied, "Oh, no. We're Jews."
* * *
What I'm not digging:
Having fans drive in from all over the Midwest and then not be able to get into our session due to space constraints. (You guys who couldn't get in - I'm so sorry! We were led to believe there was a contingency plan in place.)
* * *
The Biblical weather causing me to go 0/15 in terms of my hair looking good at events.
* * *
Deadlines, I'm really not digging them. But I've got to honor them.
* * *
So, what are you digging?

I'm digging that I just got back from Disney World about a week ago and my kids had a blast. Also, digging my new flip-flops: http://www.shoecarnival.com/Modules/Products/LargeImageView.html?img=/images/products/cn_135193_LRG.jpg&width=480&height=384
Wish I could go back in time and kiss the person who invented air conditioning.
Not digging all the rain or $4 gas.

1. Jen's books
2. Jen's blog
I am procrastinating like hell. Almost done with your newish book and don't want to be - want to be on page one again! Shit.

Diggin: I am the 100th caller...errr I mean poster!!
Posted by: Cyn Lyn | June 09, 2008 at 09:35 PM
I am totally diggin on the fact that your latest book makes a great gift (BN much?), I've lost 22 pounds (does not count loss of wayward husband), am still in remission, and that Sephora is building a store in Monterey next year. Seriously, books that make us laugh AND a store full of lip gloss?
On another subject, and you may have already done this, have you asked about favorite workout music? After reading your list, I added some to mine, and now the playlist is up to 70 songs...just curious to see what others are groovin to while they're sweatin...
Posted by: Boo | June 09, 2008 at 09:25 PM
Diggin: Discovering your books this weekend.
Not Diggin: Discovering I HAVE to "grow the hell up" because its my turn to be the parent. (Role reversal between an elderly parent & an adult child) It hurts like hell.

Loving: My first day on Weight Watchers Online (thanks to SAPF)
Not loving: the tiny, little withdrawing-from-refined-sugar headache I've had since noon
Posted by: Lisa | June 09, 2008 at 08:37 PM
Digging: All these comments, and relishing the fact that there are literate, amusing people out there who can spell. My faith in humanity is restored.
Not digging: Summer TV
Posted by: Tennessee | June 09, 2008 at 08:36 PM
one more thing.. I actually am digging this weather. I am a warm weather gal and just the mere THOUGHT of snow makes my stomach turn so I really shouldn't complain about the sweltering heat! :)
Posted by: Andrea | June 09, 2008 at 08:30 PM
I am digging those adorable sandals, Nestle Semi-Sweet Morsels, and the fact you are currently writing your fourth book which means my Jen Lancaster withdrawal will come to an end in about 11 months? YEAH!
Although this blog is definitely holding me over until then... and I am PRAYING I can come to your book signing in Boston on the 25th!!! I may even wear my pearls!
Posted by: Andrea | June 09, 2008 at 08:28 PM
Even though it is a little warm and humid, I'm digging some nice weather here in Chicago! It's been too cold for too long! I'm also digging Better N' Peanut Butter ($4 at Trader Joe's). Only 2 Weight Watcher points per serving versus 5 points in regular peanut butter!
Not digging- rats and body odor on the CTA!
Posted by: Kristin in Chicago | June 09, 2008 at 08:27 PM
I am not digging my cable freezing ever 20 seconds so that I miss all the girls taunting Ali Lohan :( I am digging having a new lease on life. I am not digging that last night I actually wished that DNA testing had not come as far as it has so that I could kill my ex's new fling (who has to make some snarky comment in the background every time I talk to her, even while my ex is telling me this girl means nothing to her....right in front of her) and not get caught.
Posted by: Erin | June 09, 2008 at 08:25 PM
Not digging: Missing your reading in Portland because I broke my toe exactly 1 hour before I was supposed to leave the house to see you! Gah!
Digging: The Sloane Crosley book & that a new Laurie Notaro book will be out in late June!
Posted by: Jamie in PDX | June 09, 2008 at 08:24 PM
I'm digging that I was lucky enough to make the cut to see the panel discussion on Saturday, and I'm digging that Jen was gracious enough not to call security when I told her my therapist recommended BITNB to me. Thanks! :)
Um, jelly shoes? Like, fer shure, they're totally 1985!
Posted by: Melissa F. | June 09, 2008 at 08:20 PM
I am digging two days off of work. I am REALLY digging your books, right now. (awesomeness...you haz it)
I am wishing you would come down Miami way, but please don't until post-October. The humidity until then would kill your hair.
Love,
Nurse Wendy

Digging: getting in to see you at the book fair on Saturday. So glad we got there early. Felt bad for the other Jen fans that didn't get in.
Also digging getting home in one piece after hearing the tornado sirens during the Metra ride back to the station.
Posted by: Janie | June 09, 2008 at 08:14 PM
Rimmel's Lycra + Minerals nail polish comes in GREAT colors (punk pink being my current fave) and lasts waaaay longer than anything else I've tried including salon stuff like OPI.
I've had people stop me and and ask where I got my nails done, and my nails which usually break are all the same length and nicely shaped since I've started using it.
Seriously at Target for under 3 bucks a pop.

Ok. So I just got back from my weekly (in reality monthly) Weight Watchers meeting and while I was waiting ever so patiently to pay my $12 to the corporate weight loss giant so the slightly crazy weigh in lady can ask me if I had a good week, I listen in on the conversation taking place ahead of me in line. The conversation was centered around the woman's friend coming to stay for a visit. And guess what the friend brought her Weight Watcher friend? Oh yes, a cake. And the hostess's response to the friend? "I don't want that-take it away." I almost peed my pants as Such a Pretty Fat was fresh in my mind. Apparently cake is an issue regardless of what state you attend a meeting in.

Holy crap - I totally didn't read the previous post about Twilight.
I KNOW - DON'T YOU LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!!
You know - the movie comes out in December. I'm thinking of taking one of my friends tweens as a cover to go see the movie!
Posted by: Sara | June 09, 2008 at 07:17 PM
I'm digging the book tour coming to Phoenix. You've got cojones Jenn. Also digging the lower price on the iphone.
Not digging: $4 a gallon gasoline.
Posted by: laura o. | June 09, 2008 at 07:16 PM
Right now I am digging:
SATC movie - I still laugh at "Mexicoma."
Re-reading SAPF right now
The Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer, and yes, I am 33 years old, thank you very much.
The anticipation of my get out of jail free pass - aka work, for 1 glorious week of vacation in July.
Stuart Weitzman "Zoom" sandals in Blue Chevron. No - I haven't bought them, I just stalk them.
My almost 1 yr old niece, Amelia.
Jon and Kate Plus Eight (and no, I don't have kids - I like their values).
Things I'm not digging:
A meeting w/my boss tomorrow in which I will ultimately have to tell her I don't understand something and "I don't know." IT SUX! She wants answers but I can't give it to her when I don't know wtf is going on. LOL.
The rain - too much of a good thing and, subsequently, ants.
One of my friends has a spinal cord tumor and we don't know yet whether it will require surgery.
Gas Prices. 'Nuff said.
See ya - Hey Jen, are you coming to St. Louis? I live right across the river near Alton, IL.
Posted by: Sara | June 09, 2008 at 07:15 PM
I am not digging being licked by my children. If I had wanted a schnauzer, I would have gotten one. Or two. I'm also not digging my shorts falling off my body. And not in a "need a smaller size" way. More of a "could use a larger size" way.
I am digging "Twilight" by Stephanie Meyer. And I'm pushing 35, not 15. How did this happen?
Posted by: Jenn | June 09, 2008 at 07:14 PM
I'm digging being on summer vacation (I love teaching in the south).
I'm also digging a whole bookshelf full of unread books for me to enjoy, and the fact that once the bookshelf is empty I get to buy more books to fill it up again.
I'm REALLY digging Enbrel which allows me to do things like type, and drive my car, and open the fridge without pain!
Posted by: Jess | June 09, 2008 at 07:07 PM
Not Digging:
Having a "volunteer" approach our section of the line while waiting to see your talk last Saturday, and tell us there was NO WAY we'd get in to see you since the room capacity was only 75 and we were at about the 100 mark. LIAR! We left the line on her advice and proceeded to watch the girls who were behind us get let in. We were sure to thank said "volunteer" for her careful counting and sound advice...
Digging:
At least we got to SEE you walk into the room (then watch the door close).
Perhaps you will consider scheduling one more Chicago appearance?

I am totally digging I finally found a friggin' job! Well, working PT at home for the company I used to work for is a job, yes? Or, stupid???
I am totally not digging this hot weather in NC that makes me want to eat only cold cold cereal for dinner and fall asleep in a tub full of iced tea. Stupid fucking global warming.

Digging: Low fat, chocolate fudge ice cream cones from skinny cow. (http://www.skinnycow.com/)
Not digging: The fact I just ate two skinny cow chocolate fudge ice cream cones in a row because they're "only" 150 calories a piece.
Digging: Getting to be one of the few people able to hear you speak on Saturday.
Not digging: The only way I could see you was by sitting on the arm rest of my chair. (would it really be that hard for them to set your chairs up on a platform so everyone had a view?)
Posted by: Stephanie | June 09, 2008 at 06:41 PM
Hi! I just got done reading "Bitter is the New Black" and I LOVED it! Hilarious! It takes a lot for a book to make me laugh out loud, but you did it well. Can't wait to read Such a Pretty Fat next!
Posted by: Marlina | June 09, 2008 at 06:32 PM
I'm digging that the weather in SF is a sunny and warm 75 and that we are not sweating our asses off like everyone on the East Coast (where we lived until 8 mos ago). No dragging of the air conditioners, swearing at the weatherman, or sweating as I walk into work. Yippee!
Posted by: Heather | June 09, 2008 at 06:27 PM
I'm digging the fact that my school year is finished (another teacher here) and that my hubby and I spent a GLORIOUS day boating out on the lake on Saturday. I'm NOT digging the fact that spray-on sunblock doesn't work for shit when it's windy out and I now have two white stripes down my legs where the sunblock actually made contact, and the rest of my legs, arms, and chest are rock-lobster red.
Posted by: jewelz916 | June 09, 2008 at 06:10 PM
I am digging being the first of our Bitter book club to read "Such a Pretty Fat" Take that!
Not digging that I missed all of your Texas appearances! Stupid South Texas! Oh well maybe in '09.
Posted by: Jenn | June 09, 2008 at 06:08 PM
I'm digging those jellies! Hopefully I can find some Ferragamo knockoffs in a similar style!
Am also digging:
- Emerald Dry Roasted Almonds - oniony, salty goodness!
- My copy of "...Pretty Fat" that I can't WAIT to read.
- the air conditioning in my Workplace is cranked up to about 60 degress to combat the fucking heat outside
Posted by: Jennifer | June 09, 2008 at 05:58 PM
I'm with Christine. I'm digging Gazela Vinho Verde, fizzy white wine too, especially with the $5.99 price tag. It's, to quote my kids "the bomb".
Posted by: Karen Mc in Dallas | June 09, 2008 at 05:55 PM
Nice! I'm digging Sloane Crosley's I WAS TOLD THERE'D BE CAKE too! Hilarious and I feel like you guys should be friends. Smart ladies...

I'm digging the return of summer to northern Minnesota. Bring on the heat! It means more time in my little backyard pool.
I'm NOT digging that I can't see you at your reading in MN 'cuz I have to be at my brother's wedding rehearsal. (woe is me!!)
Posted by: Becci | June 09, 2008 at 05:25 PM
I'm digging the fact that it is almost time for me to run a hot bubble bath and read my favorite book at the moment - SAPF. It's my favorite time of the day!
Posted by: Kelly | June 09, 2008 at 05:01 PM
I am totally digging the fact that in 5 days I'm getting hitched! Yay for me! And that besides a new world war within my family, everything is going very well!

Posted by: Heather in Texas | June 09, 2008 at 04:42 PM
Digging...SAPF.
Not digging? The fact that Dean Wormer did NOT say that quote to Bluto, he said it to Kent Dorfman, aka Flounder.
I love you anyway.

Digging the fact that season finale of Top Chef is on Wednesday- totally am rooting for Stephanie to pull it out.
At same time, am NOT digging the fact that I will be Tom Colicchio-depraved for several months after the finale.
Oh but happy note! Project Runway starts this summer- am back to digging.
Posted by: Rebecca | June 09, 2008 at 04:18 PM
I am digging the fact that Old Navy has a killer plus sized section for nothing so that I can get a billion sized 4x bathing suits to lounge around it. I am also digging that lipton white tea raspberry sugar free kind of drink. I am not digging the fact that amazon would not simply just drop off a delivery for me but insisted that I needed to sign for the extremely valuable 2 summer paper back novels I've been waiting for. They make me hostile.
Posted by: Kelly | June 09, 2008 at 04:01 PM
Not digging:
- June 9th. High temp: 53 deg. Drizzling sideways. Ick. But at least it's below 90. (sorry!)
- Going on 3 weeks, still no pathology report from by boyfriend's melanoma surgery. Sucks.
Digging:
- Being 48 years old and having a boyfriend. ;)
- Losing 3% body fat in the last month.
- Jennsylvania, of course!

I am digging Such a Pretty Fat (which I am currently reading for free at Barnes&Noble, sorry Jen I'm unemployed but I will definitely buy it once I get a job) and Jenna Jameson's autobiography (don't judge it's very interesting which I'm also reading for free), and the Sex and the City movie because it lived up to the hype.

Digging: Your panel on Saturday -- was hilarious. Glad I arrived early.
Not digging: My house possibly falling down. And not being able to eat dairy. And toddler tantrums over me turning the light on in the bathroom instead of him.
Posted by: SnarkyMommy | June 09, 2008 at 03:11 PM
OK, apparently, I did NOT post on the blog pimping page (might explain the lack of traffic), so I'm going to pimp here. Jen, forgive me--I will happily pay you in cupcakes--but you can't be too hard on someone who was dumped by her long-time boyfriend AND had to put her dog to sleep in the same month.
Anyway, people, go to IAmLandlocked.typepad.com (about being stuck in flyover country) if you want to read my form letter to unsuitable men on Match.com ("Because I'm Too Lazy to Commit Suicide"), or such gems as "Carrie Bradshaw Never Has to Mow the Lawn," and "My Summer of All Things European," wherein I slide face first through the dairy aisle of my grocery store.
Hopefully you will laugh a little, cry a little, and dig it. Please leave comments--I will go to yours if you go to mine.

1) The Celtics beating LA
2) The warm weather
3) My sally hansen 5 minute manicure set
4) My bedroom AC
Not Digging:
1) Having nothing to do at work and fearing an inevitable layoff
2) Only having AC in my bedroom...the rest of my apartment is so hot hell is chilly in comparison
3) Spending more money than I actually have
4) my hangover from celebrating the celtics win a little too much

I digging finally having the guts to comment on your blog(yay confidence!)Im digging my younger sisters will be on summer vacation in 3 days thus allowing my an extra 2 hours of sleep. Im digging taking a cold shower after work as I have been sweating my figurative testes off.
Im NOT digging people calling my place of employment, listening to the required greeting then asking if this is(insert other business that i've never heard of or care about).Do people listen anymore? Do they think Im answering with that greeting just to f*** with them?
Posted by: Andrea | June 09, 2008 at 02:50 PM
I'm digging that it's only 3 weeks to the end of the school year - yay! No more getting up at 6am and no more "can't go anywhere for the day, gotta be here by 2.30pm" :-)
Not digging: the fact that we'll go visit my family in 3 weeks and they are always anxious to tell me how fat I am. Thanks a lot, it's not like most of them are skinny, really.
