The Prom II post is coming, but I might not get it up until later as I have a whirlwind day full of exciting stuff like seeing the dentist and eye doctor and buying dirt at Home Depot.
For now, perhaps you'll enjoy this?

Fletch is hot. So's his closet.

I just discovered your books about a month ago and LOVE them! You rock! I read a bit each night before bed - ok, who am I kidding, I end up staying up until about 3am, when my husband growls at me to turn off the damn light already - or maybe it's all the giggling coming from my side of the bed that irritates him so! I'm just finishing up the third book, and jonesing for the fourth to come out.. May 5th cannot come soon enough! I just informed my husband he's making the trek with me to Charlotte, NC on May 13th!

Love your wit & charm. LOVE your books.

OMG! I feel like Cartman when he was waiting for the new Wii to come out. IS IT MAY YET???
My closet looks like Fletch's, arranged by color and hung on matching black Huggable Hangers. The sharing of your closets is very telling about your relationship: one OCD and one not. You really do need one of each. Two OCD's would wind up killing each other. Two "not's" would wind up getting lost or suffocated under the piles.

Jen, you MUST do these videos more often. That was freakin hysterical!!! Thank you for making me literally laugh out loud. :)
Posted by: Dawn | April 10, 2009 at 04:28 PM
OMG... Loved the video and I cannot wait for the book, which is pre-ordered at my local B&N!!! I especially love the Barbie head peering out of the closet! FUNNY! And damn, what I would give to have a closet like Fletch's. We're moving in June and our new master bedroom closet has a "California" closet. Let's see how long it takes me to turn it into a mangled mess. Love you, Jen!!!!
Posted by: Katya | April 10, 2009 at 12:05 PM
I loved the closet comparisons in the video! It is night and day, especially with Fletch's. I can't believe he keeps it that organized! My husband could use some tips! :)
Plus I also own multiple colors of the same shirts and sweaters. I figure, why mess with something that looks good??
Posted by: Stephanie | April 10, 2009 at 11:00 AM
That was awesome! Totally made my day! Coming to see you in MPLS but I hope I can find 80's attire. I am afraid I won't be able to pull off the look I am hoping for.

So excited! I already preordered mine!

Can't wait for the book to come out!

Fletch is precious.
But your closet is pretty close to my idea of heaven.
I've had my copy of Pretty in Plaid on pre-order FOREVER! I can't wait!

You are too adorable! I love you, love your blog, love your books. You are so down to earth and relatable. Can't wait for PIP! Do you know if you're doing any national TV shows, i.e., Oprah (c'mon, Chicago!), The View, Ellen, or Bonnie Hunt (love her, I could so see you and her hitting it off). Let us know. Can't wait to see you in Huntington Beach, CA. I may squeal and faint!

I love it! So great to put a voice to all the stories I hear in my head.

This comment is a Lacoste-free zone.
My closet, however, is not.

Thanks for looking into the camera at the end - great video but the first part was like you weren't engaging! Love your closet (reminds me of the Preppy Handbook) -RE: Fletch's closet - would love to get my husband into more of the "organized" thing and less of "you look like a band-aid - similar colors of tan do not make a look". You are terrific!
Posted by: Lori | April 09, 2009 at 09:23 PM
I puffy pink heart Fletch and his need for organization--I am female-version 2.0. Mine is all organized, but I too have a large argyle/plaid/pink collection.
Sadly, all my polos are Target, not Lacoste. Shame on me.
Posted by: Shannon | April 09, 2009 at 08:49 PM
I LOVE this and can't wait for the book! And I just bought the BEST Lacoste jacket today!
Posted by: Kelly | April 09, 2009 at 08:48 PM
Yay! I loved this video. Fletch's closet is ridiculous. Mine resembles yours. Can't wait for May!

Loved you in this video!! Maisy and Fletch were great too!
Posted by: Becky | April 09, 2009 at 07:32 PM
Jen! You. Are. THE. BEST!
It's great to see the Ambien Barbie head peeking out from your closet in this video. Good to know she's still with you!
Speaking of Paul Rudd (I was never good with segueways)... I was flipping through the commercials on a DVR-ed show this afternoon and had to come to a screeching halt when I saw Dear Paul Rudd in a gigantic round earth costume. It appears he is starring (with Elmo) in a Sesame Street video, "Elmo Goes Green", in which Elmo does indeed literally go green, which is weird enough in itself. But anyway, DPR is the thespian portraying our beautiful planet Earth, teaching Elmo and friends how to care for the planet. Even wearing a big globe costume DPR is a hottie! Now that is talent!

Great video, Jen! That's funny.. I have every color Lacoste polo too... I can't help it! When they have their sales, I go bananas! Can't wait for the new book release :)

I've said it before and I'll say it again.
You need to be on television, woman. Maybe your own talk show?

Can't wait to interview YOU!

Hey Fletch,
Nice bins.
Posted by: Katie | April 09, 2009 at 05:29 PM
Haha, I was not a teenager in the 80s but the organization of your closet looks just like mine (my boyfriend's looks more like Fletch's. Maybe it's a guy thing).
Gotta love the Lacoste shirt with "lacoste" written on the inside of the front collar :) Not subtle, but it is cute!
Posted by: Mara | April 09, 2009 at 05:23 PM
my closet is somewhere between yours and fletch's in terms of organization. more fletch. I aspire to be that organized. lol Pics on my blog now of my closet.

Where did you (or they) get that alligator paper in the opening frames of the video? I have the exact same paper--a tablet--I've kept and coveted since 1978. So cool to see it! "Crocodile Pad," made by Fante, New York, which no longer exists.
Loved the video, watched it a few times. Want to see more Fletch commentary! And live dog video.
At first I was like, "Oh, I'm sick of the 80s stuff," but little by little I'm remembering the COSTUMERY of it and I remember it was fun. If you can start a movement to bring it all back, count me in!

You forgot the cousin to the rocker chick, "the mod", that's goths were called in Northern California, at least in the suburbs where I lived. And if you think that I will not show up at your book signing looking like "120 Minutes" (remember that great mtv show) threw up on me, you are wrong! :)
Posted by: Jenni Smith | April 09, 2009 at 04:30 PM
Alrighty, I did watch this video twice, because I saw a picture of Jenn with glaring red eyes, from the 80's!!! Whats up with that? Oh goodness now I have to watch it a THIRD time to see what exactly you were saying about that pic...
Adore your take on life, I look forward to the Booksigning in San Francisco cuz like it or not, you have become THE icon on "regular" ladies' lives. Just wondering, do you REALLY only just drink the Skim Latte's?

This is for the "Day Five" post which you have callously closed to comments--I'LL TAKE THAT BET.
Meet my friend Strawberries and Bunnies.
Anyone could be obsessed with NKOTB back in the day, but would they save all that shit in a lead-lined, purified air vault and plaster it all over their baby's room 15 years later on the eve of the '10s, for crying out loud, to win a contest to fly out to LA for a NKOTB concert and to meet them in person? NO? S&B would, and did, and won. Wouldn't you love to see something like that? Well, here you go:

And while we are on about the 80s, I'll plug my 100% true "Diary of a 1980s Texas Teen."

Corey Haim - as a woman who was a preteen in the 80's, all I need to say is: Corey Haim!

You guys are a gorgeous couple! Ahh the tiny Chicago closets. It almost makes me want to move into a McMansion. Almost.
Posted by: Lotta | April 09, 2009 at 03:38 PM
I love the juxtiposition of neat and tidy closet, reed diffuser owning Fletch, with socks, shades, leather and beer floor sliding Fletch. So funny!
And I think Maisy needs a pink Lacoste polo too! And maybe even a Wham concert tee for Loki?
